Sara Alves (b. 2000 in Lisbon) lives and works between Gdynia and Lisbon. She completed her bachelor's degree in painting and her master's degree in museology and museography at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.

Sara's artistic practice focuses primarily on figurative art and neo-surrealism. Her work is based mainly on painting and drawing, occasionally expanding to other media.

Since 2020, she has developed a project-based approach to neo-surrealism, characterized by a dreamlike aesthetic and social criticism. Drawing frequently on literary contexts, she explores the psychological, ontological, and social complexity of human beings — both in the intimate and collective dimensions. Her works refer to introspection, lyricism, dreams, and intimacy, and often feature recurring anthropomorphic figures.

Her interests also encompass society at large — a direction that intensified particularly after the experience of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these works constitute a critique of contemporary social behaviors and mechanisms, such as mechanization, authoritarianism, or human alienation. Despite their critical nature, these works primarily aim to build awareness and affirm human life.

In parallel, Sara is also developing a landscape project — both on-site and in the studio — focusing on the use of color and underpainting to explore themes of inhabiting spaces and wandering through landscapes as a form of embodied travel experience.
