C.T. Jasper & J. Malinowska

Close up shot of product

C.T. Jasper and Joanna Malinowska, artists originating from the Tri-City, divide their lives between New York, Philadelphia, and Gdynia. For many years they worked individually, participating in numerous exhibitions in the United States and Europe, and currently focus mainly on creating collaborative projects. Their work revolves around issues of national identity and its paradoxes, viewed through an experimental-anthropological filter.

In 2015, they represented Poland at the Venice Art Biennale showing the video installation: Halka/Haiti 18°48’05”N 72°23’01”, which later traveled to the Gothenburg Biennale, the Ghetto Biennale in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, the Krasnoyarsk Art Biennale, and participated in many group exhibitions worldwide, from Japan to Australia. The Mother Earth Sister Moon project was commissioned by the New York performance art biennale Performa 09 and was later shown at Nottingham Contemporary and Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. In 2015, the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź hosted the exhibition Relations / Disrelations, summarizing the collaborative and individual work of Jasper and Malinowska.

Jasper and Malinowska's projects have been shown, among others, at the Centre Pompidou Metz, Canada Gallery and the High Line in New York, the Bruges Art Triennale, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, Zachęta and Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw. This summer, their project Mask Inventory Bureau, dedicated to African artifacts in Polish People's Republic apartments, will be presented at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, as part of the exhibition "The Paths of Blacks Enter the White Land".

The works of the two artists can be found in many private and museum collections in Poland and worldwide, including the Hirshhorn Museum, the Saatchi Collection in London, the Vehbi Koç Foundation in Istanbul, Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, and the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź. Both are recipients of the prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. The artists are also active pedagogically: C.T. Jasper chairs the sculpture department at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture in Philadelphia, and Joanna Malinowska teaches at Cornell University.
