Magdalena Szmydtke

A ceramicist and designer who creates unique, large-scale objects at the intersection of craftsmanship and applied art. Her path to design led through biology and a career in corporate environments in Poland and abroad, to finally bring her to her hometown of Gdynia, where she founded her own studio.
Her work is a tribute to the beauty of our sea, expressed through its abstract interpretation. The artist avoids literalness, focusing instead on sculptural forms and custom, self-developed glazes that, after firing, create unique compositions reminiscent of water, sand, and light in their constant movement. All objects are made by hand from start to finish, in a physically demanding and intentionally unstructured process. Rather than following precise sketches, the designer allows the material to dictate the terms, making each piece unique and impossible to replicate.
Her works have been shown at exhibitions in Poland and worldwide, including during the 3 Days of Design festival in Copenhagen, in Milan, Los Angeles, as well as in the Warsaw galleries Craftica and Concept 11, and during the "Regeneration" exhibition in Brussels and Strasbourg as part of the Polish EU Presidency. Her work has been published numerous times in prestigious magazines, including Vogue, Architectural Digest, Design Alive, and Label Magazine.
The artists' works presented during the Dreams of Gdynia festival are available for sale.
